What is Photovoice?

Photovoice is a CBPR research method that “puts cameras in the hands of people with valuable lived experience so they can explore and share their perspectives on health, family, community, and their futures” (1). It also involves the participants actively sharing, discussing and identifying themes and ideas they feel capture their photos/captions and that can be used to advocate for change in their communities. It aims to support social change (2) and helps centre local knowledge and information of the community by the community (3).

Picturing Peel

2022-2023

This exhibit aims to show and tell what it was like for people across Peel to move or (not) move their bodies during the pandemic, specifically, youth and caregivers of youth in Peel. We hope this holds a space and place for these moments and helps you to build back better in ways that enable people in to move and be well.as hard and heavy on all of us, impacting communities in Peel in many inequitable ways. As we move forward we need to build back better so that people can move and be well within their communities.
